The unluckiest day of the year is just around the corner, but this year is unlike any other I’ve experienced so far. Oddly, this Friday the 13th seems especially…lucky. Not one, not two, but three YouTube productions are premiering this Friday. I’ve never been so excited for the cursed day to come.
Geek and Sundry will be releasing the first episode of Sword & Laser this Friday. Sword is Laser is a sci-fi/fantasy book discussion show that evolved from a popular book club podcast of the same name. This week, hosts Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt will be discussing The Magicians by Lev Grossman. I’ve read through about a quarter of the book, and I love it so far. It’s been accurately described as Harry Potter for adults.
If you’re into sci-fi and fantasy, I’d recommend you tune into Sword & Laser this Friday on Geek and Sundry. Check out the show’s trailer below.
I’ve been meaning to introduce you all to Team StarKid for a while, but never got around to it. Now is as good a time as ever, I guess. StarKid Productions (or Team StarKid) is a company that produces and performs musicals. The company is most known for its hilarious first production, A Very Potter Musical. If you haven’t seen it already, I recommend you drop everything and watch it right now. Don’t worry, I’ll wait right here.
Are you finished? Good — we still have things to discuss. Team StarKid is premiering a new musical this Friday; it’s called Holy Musical B@man. They haven’t said much about it, but I’m sure it will be just a funny and creative as their other productions. You can watch the original musical announcement and the release announcement (featuring StarKid Brian Holden) below. Holden also mentions an upcoming StarKid tour named Apocalyptour (because it’s 2012…get it? Mayans? End of the World? Yeah.).
Last, but most appropriate, is the return of BlackBoxTV. This channel, created and directed by Tony Valenzuela, features creepy and mysterious short movies. I haven’t seen all that BlackBoxTV has to offer, but what I’ve watched so far is worthwhile. It’s not too scary, but creepy enough to give you a small thrill. I’m excited to see what else Valenzuela and Anthony Zuiker (creator of CSI) have to offer. If you’re looking for a thrill on Friday, BlackBoxTV is where you need to be. There are a couple of trailers for the channel’s return below.
